On April 19, 2008 CII held a Citizenship Workshop in Glenwood Springs, in association with Ya Es Hora Ciudadnía, American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and CASE. 87 people registered for the event, 85-86 of them went all the way through the process. CII estimates that 50% had a ready to mail packet - many applicants had some issues requiring them to get private counsel before going forward; others did not have all the documents needed, and some needed to take time to fill in more information on the application form. All were given information about what to do to complete their application. 42 volunteer helped applicants fill out their forms; there were 5 attorneys (all were AILA members) who checked the applications.
Many people had been legal permanent residents for a long time (20+ years) and this event was what they needed to push them to apply for citizenship. The participants were happy to have such an event available. They expressed what it meant to them and their families to be able to become citizens.
