Living in the US workshops

The Community Integration Initiative presents Living in the US workshops series dedicated to provide orientation and information to immigrants on the US system, helping them adjust to their new home. Since working families continue to move to the region, the first workshop was dedicated to the Challenges of Raising the Immigrant Child and took place on June 23, 2008, at Mountain View Church in Glenwood Springs. Presenters at the workshop were: Adriana Ayala (RFSD Pre-collegiate Program), Bruce Benjamin (Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office, Juvenile Detective), Marie Munday (Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office Latino-Anglo Liaison), Sarah Woods (Youth Zone), Roaring Fork Family Resource Centers representative. Parents were able to obtain information on the school system, the law and the youth, learn about resources available in the community and much more.

We want to thank the presenters, the interpreters and audience of 25-30 emerging civic leaders who sacrificed their valuable time to show up and trade questions and ideas about the critical issue of the raising the multicultural youth of our valley, which has profound implications for the long-term health of our Aspen-to-Parachute community. We look forward to seeing even more of you at our next workshop!
